Hi, I’m josie.

I’m a fully licensed and board-certified osteopathic physician, integrative practitioner, and lifelong dancer inspired by global rhythms. My work weaves together Japanese acupuncture, shiatsu, Ayurveda, yoga, and the poetic wisdom of the five great elements—ether, air, fire, water, and earth.

Since 1984, I’ve practiced bodywork and supported hundreds of birth givers, babies, and families. Before becoming a physician, I worked as a birth worker at Maine Medical Center and Ballard House Birth Center. I’ve been certified as a childbirth educator, a DONA-trained doula and doula trainer, and have studied reflexology, shiatsu, and Swedish massage through the Swedish Institute in NYC.

I earned my medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011, completed a family medicine residency at Maine-Dartmouth, and pursued an additional residency in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

My practice is rooted in holistic care—supporting the mind, body, and spirit through movement, nutrition, healthy living, and self-care. I especially enjoy guiding individuals to connect with their innate healing and vitality.

Dance remains my deep passion. I lead breath-based movement rooted in meditative belly dance to explore the Divine Feminine. I previously served as Artistic Director for Baraka! Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble, toured with the Maine Arts Commission, and now perform with Spiral Dance Collective.

My Approach

My practice is grounded in two complementary philosophical perspectives:

Western medicine

Western medicine, especially allopathic, excels at providing effective symptom relief through advanced pharmaceuticals and surgical techniques. Its strength lies in a precise, targeted approach, often breaking down complex conditions into manageable components for treatment. This method is highly successful in many cases, yet there is also growing recognition of the value in exploring deeper, underlying causes of imbalance to support long-term wellness.

Osteopathic, traditional, and Indigenous healing systems

By contrast, these approaches seek to understand and treat the root causes of illness. In this view, symptoms—whether pain, digestive issues, sleep disturbances, or anxiety—are signals of underlying imbalance. Addressing only the symptoms without resolving the deeper issue risks temporary relief rather than lasting healing.

By integrating these perspectives, I strive to offer care that is responsive, respectful, and attuned to the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.
