Hi, I’m Dr josie.

I’m a fully licensed and boarded as an Osteopathic physician in Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, an integrative medicine practitioner, NAMA approved AHC. I’ve just completed my Ayurveda Practitioner training and am certified as a PanchaKarma technician. My work weaves together Osteopathy with Japanese acupuncture, Ayurveda, yoga, and the poetic wisdom of the five great elements—ether, air, fire, water, and earth.

Since 1984, I’ve practiced bodywork. I have had the honor of supporting hundreds of birth givers, babies, and families. I worked as a birth worker at Maine Medical Center and Ballard House Birth Center teaching childbirth classes and as a Doula. I have studied reflexology, shiatsu, and Swedish massage through the Swedish Institute in NYC.

My medical degree is from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine class of 2011. I completed my family medicine residency with Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine, with an additional year in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

My practice is rooted in holistic care—supporting the mind, body, and spirit through movement, nutrition, healthy living, and self-care. I especially enjoy guiding individuals to connect with their innate healing and vitality.

I lead breath-based movement rooted in meditative dance to explore the Divine Feminine through world rhythms. I previously served as Artistic Director for Baraka! Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble, toured with the Maine Arts Commission, and now perform with Spiral Dance Collective in Hallowell.

My Approach

My practice is grounded in two complementary philosophical perspectives:

Western medicine

Western medicine, especially allopathic, excels at providing effective symptom relief through advanced pharmaceuticals and surgical techniques. Its strength lies in a precise, targeted approach, often breaking down complex conditions into manageable components for treatment. This method is highly successful in many cases, yet there is also growing recognition of the value in exploring deeper, underlying causes of imbalance to support long-term wellness.

Osteopathic, traditional, and Indigenous healing systems

By contrast, these approaches seek to understand and treat the root causes of illness. In this view, symptoms—whether pain, digestive issues, sleep disturbances, or anxiety—are signals of underlying imbalance. Addressing only the symptoms without resolving the deeper issue risks temporary relief rather than lasting healing.

By integrating these perspectives, I strive to offer care that is responsive, respectful, and attuned to the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.
